Grossmont Healthcare District Reminds Us to Keep Calm and Color On
While you may have given up your 'Hello Kitty' coloring book years ago, Grossmont Healthcare District is encouraging its residents to dust off the colored pencils for this week's 'Wellness Wednesday.'
According to Kathy Quinn, director of the Herrick Community Health Care Library, "Coloring is now all grown up." Adult coloring books have recently soared to popularity, due to the activity's unexpected benefits. Quinn, who will be hosting this week's program, claims, "The light mental focus required for coloring promotes mindfulness and calmness, which can help reduce stress." Additionally, Quinn adds that coloring together can be a great social activity.
The Library's 'Wellness Wednesday' program is designed to engage citizens, keeping them informed on modern health issues. Held once every month, past programs have focused on nutrition, and physical health, for example, 'the ABCs of Vitamin D' and 'Easy Ways to Eating Right.' The events feature a guest speaker and a question and answer session for participants looking for expert advice.
The Herrick Community Library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District as part of their effort to provide health-related community programs and services. 'Wellness Wednesdays' are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, CA.
