Water Conservation District Unveils Seed Library
In it's latest effort to promote community conservation, the Chino Basin Water Conservation District unveiled the San Bernardino County Regional Seed Library .
In a free event last Saturday, the conservation district introduced the new community resource. At the open house, attendees learned about the Seed Library through workshops, crafts, demos, and information tables.
Local residents can 'check out' seeds to plant in personal gardens. The library offers seeds from a wide array of plants, including flowers, trees, and vegetables. All seeds are locally adapted and well-suited for growth in the Inland Valley Region. Participants are also encouraged to 'check in' seeds by harvesting extra seeds and returning them to the library. Through this cycle, the library hopes to establish a permanent community resource which encourages biodiversity, promotes regional seeds, and helps residents save money.
The library is a collaboration between the Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the San Bernardino Master Gardener Program. Conservation Programs Manager, Scott Kleinrock said in a statement, "Offering the San Bernardino Regional Seeds Library with our community partners at the San Bernardino County Master Gardeners is a natural collaboration between two groups actively engaging the public on approaches adapted to gardening specifically in our area."
The library is currently accepting seed donations. If you would like to make a donation, participate, or learn more, visit the library at 4594 San Bernardino St. in Montclair or call, 909-626-2711.
